Scaramucci defends Sanders over handling of Stormy Daniels story

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is defending Trump press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders over the disclosure that President Trump reimbursed his attorney for paying “hush money” to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

“I think she’s doing the best she can given the information that she has,” Scaramucci told Chris Cuomo on CNN’s “New Day” on Friday.

Huckabee Sanders faced tough questions from reporters on Thursday after Trump admitted he reimbursed his personal attorney Michael Cohen for paying $130,000 to Daniels, who has alleged that she had an affair with Trump over a decade ago.

Trump had previously said he was not aware of the payments. Huckabee Sanders made similar statements to reporters.

On Thursday, she said she only learned that Trump had reimbursed Cohen when Rudy Giuliani made the revelation during an interview on Fox News Wednesday night.

CNN’s Jim Acosta pressed Huckabee Sanders on Thursday, referring to her earlier denials and asking if she had been “lying to us at the time or were you in the dark?”

Sanders insisted that she had given reporters “the best information that I had at the time.”

Scaramucci on Friday downplayed the controversy over the hush money and Trump’s admission.

“When we talk about the president lying and not lying and all this other stuff, I think there’s another component to this that people are missing,” said Scaramucci.

He argued that the president is succeeding at his job.

“The macro things are actually going quite well for the president,” he said.

Scaramucci served just 11 days in the White House in 2017 before being fired by Trump.
