Former President George H.W. Bush expressed optimism about his recovery on Thursday, saying as soon as he’s cleared to leave the hospital “I’m outta here.”
Bush has remained at Houston Methodist Hospital for nearly two weeks with an infection. The hospital announced Thursday it named one of its atriums after Bush and his late wife, Barbara.
“Quite moved by this announcement by @MethodistHosp. The atrium is beautiful, but recent developments notwithstanding I have not taken up residence here,” Bush tweeted.

“The doctors, nurses and support staff are so nice, but the second I get the green light I’m outta here,” he added.
A spokesman for the Bush family said the former president has been gaining strength and is making progress in his recovery.
Bush, 93, is said to be eager to leave the hospital and return to the family’s summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
He has battled health problems in recent years, and was admitted most recently just one day after he attended the funeral of his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush.
