Poll: Trump’s approval rating highest in West Virginia, lowest in Vermont

President Trump received his highest approval ratings in 2017 from residents of West Virginia, a poll released Tuesday found, while his lowest rating came from Vermont.

The Gallup Poll showed that 61 percent of West Virginians approved of Trump’s job performance in 2017; in Vermont, only 26 percent of voters approve of Trump.

Vermont is home to Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is considered a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 after being the runner-up for the 2016 nomination.

{mosads}Trump’s overall approval rating averaged 38 percent in 2017, according to Gallup, but his reception varied highly among states.

Twelve states gave Trump an approval rating of 50 percent or better, while less than half of residents in all other states approved of his performance in his first year in office.

West Virginia, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota and Alabama gave Trump his highest marks. 

The District of Columbia, Vermont, Massachusetts, Hawaii and California gave him his lowest approval ratings, according to the poll.

Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address on Tuesday night, where he is expected to tout the state of the economy and his accomplishments from 2017. He is also likely to detail an infrastructure plan and other initiatives for 2018.
