Former aide on Clinton’s appearance at Grammys: ‘Everyone needs to grow a sense of humor’

A former senior adviser to Hillary Clinton is defending her appearance at the Grammy Awards, saying her critics overreacted.

“This was a joke, this was funny. I think Nikki Haley overreacted, Don Jr. overreacted,” Philippe Reines said on Fox News. 

“I think everyone needs to grow a sense of humor.”

Clinton appeared Sunday night on a prerecorded segment in which she read from the book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.” Clinton and multiple musicians read excerpts from the book under the premise that they could be nominated for a Grammy next year.

The book contains explosive allegations about the Trump White House, and sparked a rift between President Trump and his former chief strategist, Stephen Bannon.

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley quickly expressed disapproval with the segment.

Reines also addressed criticism Clinton is facing after it was reported that she kept a top adviser on her 2008 presidential campaign after he was accused of sexual misconduct by another campaign staff member.

Clinton addressed the report in a pair of tweets, saying she was “dismayed” when she learned of the allegations against her then-senior faith adviser, Burns Strider. She added that she was “heartened” the woman came forward, and called the woman over the weekend to express her support.

Reines said Monday he expects Clinton to further address the allegations against Strider “imminently.”
