FBI ‘no longer’ looking for second person in NYC attack

The FBI announced Wednesday night that they were no longer looking for a second individual in connection with the terrorist attack in New York the previous day, after reports indicated that authorities were seeking information on the man.

“We were seeking information about an individual … We are no longer seeking that individual. We believed he had information related to yesterday, but we are not looking for that individual any longer,” Assistant FBI Director Bill Sweeney said.

“We have found him. I’ll leave it at that,” he added.

The FBI was reportedly seeking any details on Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, 32, who was not considered to be a suspect. Kadirov is a native of Uzbekistan, the same country of origin as the alleged attacker Sayfullo Saipov.

Saipov is now in custody after the attack, which left eight people dead and several others injured, representing the deadliest attack in New York since Sept. 11, 2001.

During the attack, Saipov allegedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” as he rammed a truck into a crowded bicycle lane near the new One World Trade Center.

Saipov has been brought up on federal terrorism charges for his material support of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, after authorities say he left a note in the truck claiming the attack was carried out in the group’s name.
