Dem: Slain soldiers ‘never signed up to have their loved ones insulted’
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Wednesday slammed President Trump for reportedly telling the widow of a soldier killed in Niger that the fallen U.S. soldier “knew what he signed up for.”
“Those who pay the ultimate sacrifice in defense of USA never signed up to have their loved ones insulted by the Commander in Chief,” Lee said on Twitter, adding the hashtag “shame.”

Jackson Lee’s comments come after Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) accused the president on Tuesday of being insensitive during his call to the family of the soldier killed during an ambush earlier this month in Niger.
The mother of Sgt. La David Johnson told The Washington Post that Trump “did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband” on the call.
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Trump pushed back on details of his call with Johnson’s widow that were provided by Wilson, who was in the car with the widow, Myeshia Johnson, during the conversation.
“I didn’t say what that congresswoman said — didn’t say it at all — she knows it,” Trump told reporters. “I would like her to make the statement again because I did not say what she said.”
