Bannon slams Corker for criticizing Trump

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon took aim at Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) in a speech Saturday urging voters to fight against the Republican establishment in Washington.

“Right now it’s a season of war against the GOP establishment,” Bannon said at the Values Voter Summit, a gathering of evangelical conservatives.

“Bob Corker has trashed the commander in chief of our Armed Forces while we have young men and women in harm’s way, right? He said he’s leading them on a path to World War III, that he is not stable, that people have to keep him moderated,” Bannon continued.

“Why some U.S. senator in a position of that authority for the first time in the history of our Republic has mocked and ridiculed a commander in chief when we have kids in the field,” he added.

Corker, who has announced he will not seek reelection in 2018, has been locked in a war of words with President Trump, leading Bannon to call on the senator to resign earlier this week.

“If Bob Corker has any honor or decency, he should resign immediately,” Bannon told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, while outlining his plan to oppose GOP congressmen who resist the president’s agenda.

Corker had said in a New York Times interview that Trump was setting the U.S. “on the path to World War III” and called the White House “an adult day care center” after Trump claimed on Twitter that the GOP senator didn’t have the “guts” to run for reelection.

Trump also blamed Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, for shouldering much of the blame for the “horrendous” 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

“It’s not my war, this is our war and y’all didn’t start it, the establishment started it,” Bannon said Saturday of his push to unseat Republicans who oppose Trump’s agenda.
