Preet Bharara: Trump believing Putin is like DA believing mobster
Ousted U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara on Sunday joked that President Trump believing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denial that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 election was like law enforcement believing a criminal.
“When pursuing a corrupt politician, mobster or murderer on strong FBI evidence, if he ‘vehemently denied it,’ we just dropped it usually,” Bharara tweeted.

Bharara was responding to an earlier tweet by Trump that said Putin denied that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
“I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it. I’ve already given my opinion…” Trump tweeted.
Bharara was fired by Trump in March after refusing to resign and has been a vocal critic of the administration since. He earned a reputation during his time in office as an aggressive prosecutor of corruption cases.
