‘Duck Dynasty’ star knocks ‘kissing’ congressman

“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson said Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) proved he is not a ‘Godly man’ after he was caught kissing a staff member.

Robertson said video of McAllister kissing one his staff members is the reason he’s dropped his suppport.

{mosads}”I asked him if he was a Godly man and he said, ‘Yeah,’” Robertson said of McAllister, according to The News-Star. “I asked him if he walked by faith in the Lord Jesus, and he said, ‘Yeah.’ I asked him if he was a strong family man and he said, ‘Yeah.’ Two months in, it proved otherwise.”

Robertson’s nephew Zach Dasher is one of several candidates running to replace McAllister. Robertson made the remarks over the weekend in front of a crowd of about 10,000, according to the newspaper. 

The Louisiana congressman’s special election last year was helped along by endorsements from the Robertson family. Phil Robertson appeared at a campaign rally for McAllister last year.

And McAllister invited Willie Robertson, another “Duck Dynasty” star, to the State of the Union address in January after he appeared in a campaign ad for McAllister. 

McAllister has lost support from a number of factions of the Republican Party after video surfaced in April of the married congressman kissing a former staff member in his district office. 

McAllister initially said he would not run for reelection. But he reversed course, saying it is up to voters to decide. 

The Times-Picayune reported in July that different members of the Robertson family had donated $52,000 to Dasher this year. Dasher is running as a Republican, and made religion a major part of his message when he announced his bid to defeat McAllister in June. 

“I think there’s a vacuum in D.C. of people who understand where rights come from. Rights don’t come from men. They come from God,” he said at the time.
