Ready for Warren goes ‘full steam ahead’ despite disavowal

The super-PAC urging Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to run for president said Monday it would continue to plow “full steam ahead” after the senator formally disavowed the group in a letter to the Federal Election Commission.

“We will continue full steam ahead with our campaign to draft Senator Warren to run for president in 2016, because we believe she is the best person for the job,” the group said in a statement. “Senator Warren has devoted her life to fighting for working families, and is one of the few politicians willing to take on Wall Street and champion policies that give all Americans a fair shot.”

{mosads}The group, launched in July, filed its paperwork with the FEC earlier this month in order to raise unlimited amounts of money to spend on independent expenditures urging the freshman Democrat to run for president.

The group attempts to mirror a Ready for Hillary PAC that successfully urged a number of lawmakers to give early endorsements to Hillary Clinton.

Warren has consistently said she is not running and has publicly distanced herself from the group in numerous interviews. Her lawyers took the further step of formally disavowing the group in a letter to the FEC on Friday, warning the group could confuse donors.

The Boston Globe reported Warren was under no legal obligation to do so.

The super-PAC reiterated it has no affiliation with Warren and said it agrees that the current focus should be on the midterm elections. The group is holding a number of house parties this week to “support Warren allies in the November elections and elevate Senator Warren’s agenda heading into 2016.”
