Trump team stumps for La. Senate candidate

Vice President-elect Mike Pence stumped for GOP Senate candidate John Neely Kennedy in New Orleans on Saturday.

Speaking at a get-out-the-vote rally for the Louisiana state treasurer, Pence touted Kennedy as a potential partner to the incoming Trump administration.

“We need partners in the United States Senate to support the president-elect’s nominee to the highest court in the land,” he said. “We will nominate people who uphold our Constitution, stand for the sanctity of life, our Second Amendment and all of our god-given liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights.”

“I stand before you, Louisiana, to say that we need John Kennedy in the United State Senate. We truly do,” he added. “By electing John Kennedy as your next senator, you’re going to put an exclamation point at the end of a great American victory in 2016.”

{mosads}President-elect Donald Trump also tweeted his endorsement of Kennedy on Saturday, encouraging Louisianans to vote early and saying Kennedy “will be a tremendous help to us in Washington.”

Kennedy is competing against Democratic candidate Foster Campbell, a member of the state’s public service commission, in Louisiana’s runoff election on Dec. 10. Kennedy is widely favored to win the race.

“Louisiana, I’m really here to say thanks, but we have one more race to win this year, and it’s right here in your great state,” Pence said.
