Senate Majority PAC increases ad buy in Massachusetts
A Democratic source with knowledge of the buy said the PAC will spend at least $500,000 more on the buy, to continue airing an ad it launched attacking Gabriel Gomez (R) on his position on Social Security and his support for raising the retirement age. Gomez backs a plan, proposed by President Obama, to change the way Social Security benefits are calculated, and it would likely cut benefits.
That brings the total the PAC is spending on the race to an estimated $1 million.
{mosads}Though Democrat Edward Markey has led Gomez in nearly every poll of the race, the Republican has kept his lead down to single digits, prompting concerns among some Democrats that they could suffer an upset similar to the one they faced during the 2010 special, when Republican Scott Brown was elected to the Senate.
Senate Majority PAC’s increased buy reflects that concern. But Democrats insist they’re confident Markey will win and that they’re simply taking nothing for granted.
