NC Senate ad slams Burr for standing by Trump

Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) is putting partisan politics ahead of the good of the country by standing with Donald Trump, Burr’s Democratic challenger says in a new ad.

{mosads}Deborah Ross’s video, released Friday, rips Burr for not backing down from supporting Trump after the public release of a tape in which the GOP presidential nominee makes lewd remarks about women.

“Even after Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women, Burr said, ‘I’m gonna support Donald Trump,’ ” the narrator says.

“Because Richard Burr puts politics and himself ahead of us.”

Democrats are working to link down-ballot Republicans to Trump following the release of the tape, in which Trump is heard bragging about kissing and groping women without their consent, and a wave of sexual assault allegations leveled at the real estate mogul.

Burr called Trump’s remarks on the tape “indefensible” but said he’s still backing the GOP nominee. Earlier this month, he told the Raleigh News & Observer that he has “forgiven” Trump.

“Senator Burr’s decision to stick with Donald Trump and attack Deborah’s strong record of supporting women and families was calculated and political, and it’s backfiring now as his campaign desperately tries to distract from a 20-plus year record of making Washington work for him but not North Carolina,” Ross spokeswoman Helen Hare said.

Burr is holding on to a 2.8-point lead in the race, according to a RealClearPolitics polling average.

The North Carolina race could determine control of the Senate. Democrats need to net five seats — or four if they retain the White House — to retake control of the upper chamber.
