Florida poll: Rubio ‘appears to be on his way to re-election’

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) is leading his Democratic challenger by 7 points, according to a new survey of a competitive race that could help determine control of the Senate.

{mosads}In a new poll released Tuesday, conducted by the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab, Rubio has 48 percent support among likely voters, while Rep. Patrick Murphy has 41 percent.

Another 10 percent are undecided.

“Rubio is holding a solid seven-point lead and appears to be on his way to re-election,” said Dr. Michael Binder, faculty director of the research laboratory.

The race is considered an important one as Republicans look to maintain control of the Senate.

In a RealClearPolitics polling average, Rubio leads Murphy by 4.4 points, 46.8 percent to 42.4 percent.

Rubio, a former 2016 presidential candidate, entered the race after saying for months that he would not seek reelection.

The poll was conducted among 696 likely voters from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 and has a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
