Super PAC hits Dem Senate candidate with ad in tightening Missouri race

The Senate Leadership Fund, a Republican-allied super PAC, is launching a new ad against Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander in another sign the Missouri Senate race is tightening.

{mosads}The ad hits Kander for supporting a national energy tax, ObamaCare and government support for illegal immigrants — panning over a picture-in-picture clip of people climbing over a fence — calling him a “career politician.” 

It also focuses on his record as a state legislator representing Jackson County.

“Kander voted against cutting income taxes for families and against tax relief for small businesses that create jobs,” a narrator says while the camera continues its pan over a black-and-white shot of the state capitol and another picture-in-picture clip of Kander speaking.

“Across the board, he’s too liberal to trust in Washington,” the narrator concludes.

The ad begins airing on Friday and is part of a $2.5 million media buy.

The Senate Leadership Fund ran its first ad in the state the week of Sept. 13.

Republicans are getting more nervous about Missouri and its incumbent GOP senator, Roy Blunt, as polls show the race getting more competitive.

Kander’s website touts an Emerson College poll released last week showing him slightly ahead of Blunt in a head-to-head matchup, 42 percent to 40 percent. 

Blunt has led in other polls. A RealClearPolitics average of several recent surveys shows him ahead by 3.4 points.
