GOP Sen. John Cornyn won’t endorse Ted Cruz in a potential primary next cycle, according to CNN.
{mosads}Cornyn, the senior GOP senator from Texas, doesn’t plan to endorse the junior senator from the Lone Star State.
Cornyn told CNN he won’t endorse Cruz’s possible primary challenger, Rep. Michael McCaul, either.
“I’m not going to get involved in any primary races, particularly with my colleagues in the Senate,” Cornyn said.
“We’ll see what happens, but we’ve got plenty to worry about between now and November 2016 before we start worrying about November 2018.”
Cornyn said he sees “no benefit” in getting involved in the primary.
McCaul declined to tell CNN if he would run against Cruz, saying he’s focusing on reelection to the House.
Cruz is often regarded as unpopular among his colleagues in the Senate.
Donald Trump used that against him when the two faced off in the GOP presidential primary; Cruz said it was proof he wasn’t a Washington insider.
