NH senate candidate: ‘I didn’t give my best answer’ on Clinton honesty

New Hampshire’s Democratic Senate candidate says she regrets repeatedly refusing to say whether she thought Hillary Clinton was honest and trustworthy.

{mosads}Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire’s governor, dodged several times when asked about Clinton’s trustworthiness in a CNN interview Wednesday that went viral.

“We can all have days when we answer questions better and I certainly didn’t give my best answer on that one,” Hassan told NH1’s political director Paul Steinhauser on Friday.

Hassan tried to clean up her comments about Clinton by clarifying later Wednesday that she did in fact consider the Democratic presidential nominee to be trustworthy.

Hassan is locked in a tight race with incumbent Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.). Democrats have keyed in on the race as they hope to reclaim control of the Senate. They can take back the chamber by gaining five seats — or four if they also retain the White House.
