Dem Iraq War vet hits Trump over Purple Heart
Illinois Senate hopeful and combat veteran Tammy Duckworth blasted Donald Trump on Tuesday for saying that he had “always wanted to get the Purple Heart.”
{mosads}The Illinois congresswoman, who lost her legs and part of her arm while serving in Iraq, shared a picture on Twitter of her in a hospital bed, presumably from her recovery.
Pinned to her hospital gown in the photo is a Purple Heart, the military medal awarded to those injured or killed while serving.
“[Donald Trump], this is how one usually looks when you are awarded the Purple Heart. Nothing easy about it,” Duckworth said in the tweet.

Duckworth was wounded after her helicopter was shot down.
She’s currently challenging Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) for his seat. Kirk is one of Republicans most vulnerable senators in 2016.
Earlier Tuesday, a Trump supporter presented the GOP presidential nominee with a Purple Heart during a rally in Virginia.
“I always wanted to get the Purple Heart — this was much easier,” Trump said to the crowd. “I’ll tell you, it was such an honor.”
Trump said the man told him it was his real medal. NBC News, though, reported that the man told reporter Katy Tur it was a replica.
