Jeb Bush backs Rubio for Senate, still no Trump endorsement

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who once said Marco Rubio had accomplished nothing during his time in the Senate, will back the Florida Republican in his reelection bid, ABC News reports. 

{mosads}A spokeswoman for Bush, one of Rubio’s former presidential primary rivals, told ABC News on Wednesday that he would support Rubio. 

But the two Florida Republicans had a rocky relationship during their time in the presidential race. 

Bush marked Rubio as weak on immigration reform, while also hitting him for his relative inexperience and his poor attendance record.

In February, Bush said Rubio had accomplished nothing during his tenure in the Senate. 

“Nothing,” Bush said. “So his record of accomplishment is slim.” 

Rubio later said of the conflict between the two: “Things happen.” 

In February, Rubio said, “But that’s never changed my feelings toward him. And I don’t think that has changed his feelings toward me.” 

Bush ended his presidential bid after a poor showing in South Carolina’s February primary, while Rubio dropped out following a bad loss to Donald Trump in March in his home state of Florida. 

Rubio announced Wednesday he would run again for his Senate seat after saying for months he would be a private citizen in January. 

Meanwhile, Bush still refuses to back Trump, his party’s presumptive presidential nominee. 

He said in May he won’t vote for Trump or presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in November. 

“Donald Trump has not demonstrated that temperament or strength of character,” Bush wrote on his Facebook page last month.

“He has not displayed a respect for the Constitution. And, he is not a consistent conservative. These are all reasons why I cannot support his candidacy.”

But Brent Scowcroft, who served as national security adviser under George H.W. Bush, endorsed Clinton for president on Wednesday.
