The Senate Republicans’ campaign arm raised almost $3 million in December, according to figures provided by the group.
{mosads}The National Republican Senatorial Committee’s (NRSC) latest haul brings its 2015 fundraising total to nearly $41 million as it seeks to compete in a string of high-profile races in order to maintain the party’s majority in the Senate.
The NRSC has about $11.7 million cash on hand and reports no debt.
In November, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) outraised the NRSC by $1.6 million. But the GOP campaign arm had a slight cash advantage with $11.3 million cash on hand compared to the DSCC’s $10.1 million.
The Democratic campaign arm has not yet reported its December fundraising totals, but did report a debt of $5.1 million last month.
Democrats need to net five Senate seats in 2016 to regain a majority in the upper chamber — unless they retain the White House. Then a net gain of four seats would give them the majority, with the vice president breaking a 50-50 tie.
Democrats are considered to have an advantage in that they are only defending 10 Senate seats, while the GOP is defending 24 seats.
