Feingold hints at Senate run

Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) is moving back to Wisconsin as he leaves the State Department, with plans to “travel the state extensively” while he weighs a Senate run, he announced Tuesday on Facebook.

{mosads}”For most of the rest of this year, I will be living at my home in Middleton, Wisconsin, from where I will travel the state extensively,” he said in the post. “I will listen carefully to my fellow Wisconsinites talk about their concerns, especially those involving their economic well-being. I will also seek their counsel on how I can best further serve my country and the state I love.”

Feingold also said he’ll spend part of the next year teaching international relations and law at Stanford University.

The former senator has long been expected to mount a rematch against Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who beat him in 2010. This isn’t the first time Feingold has dropped a not-so-subtle hint that he’ll run.

The race is one of Democrats’ best pickup opportunities, as they look to retake Senate control next year.
