Duckworth ‘interested, open and curious’ about Senate run

Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) is giving serious thought to a challenge to Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

{mosads}Duckworth is “interested, open and curious” about a run and is receptive to having conversations about the race, a source on Duckworth’s team tells the Sun-Times.

Duckworth’s husband registered the website domain duckworthforsenate.com some time ago.

Kirk is a top Democratic target given Illinois’s Democratic leanings, and Duckworth has been talked about as a statewide Democratic candidate for some time.

Democrats have long been intrigued by her profile. The Iraq War veteran lost both her legs in a helicopter crash, and strategists privately say her story of overcoming adversity would help them cut into the goodwill Kirk has in the state following his recovery from a serious stroke in early 2012.
