The Kentucky Republican Party is reminding voters of Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’s ties to President Obama with a holographic mailer that shows her turning into him.
{mosads}The mailer first shows President Obama’s iconic 2008 “Hope” campaign poster, designed by artist Shepard Fairey, and when tilted backwards it becomes a shot of Grimes in a similar style with text reading “nope.”
On the back, recipients can read more about how “the Obama-Grimes liberals are trying to fool Kentucky again.”
Republicans have worked to make the Kentucky race a referendum on President Obama, who remains deeply unpopular in the state, tying Grimes to the president and national Democrats at every opportunity. The mailer offers voters a more vivid reminder of the GOP argument that a vote for Grimes is essentially a vote for Obama’s agenda.
Polling has shown a tight race, with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) opening up a slight lead, though both parties believe he’s running neck-and-neck with Grimes.
