Immigration protestors cut Hagan speech short

Immigration reform protesters hopped onstage and forced Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) to cut a speech short on Sunday, the latest disruption they’ve created for Hagan’s campaign.

{mosads}A handful of protesters waving signs that read “Friends don’t deport friends” and “Kay Hagan has lost my vote” climbed onstage during a get-out-the-vote rally Hagan held in the Research Triangle on Sunday, interrupting her normal stump speech.

Hagan tried to push through, before saying, “We definitely support immigration reform; you need to go talk to Thom Tillis.” As they continued to yell, she said, “I’ve supported common-sense bipartisan immigration reform.”

Hagan eventually gave up after chants of “We want Kay” attempted to drown out the protestors, leaving the stage.

The protesters are still angry that Hagan voted against the DREAM Act in 2010.

They also interrupted her Saturday event with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. One told The Hill that he was protesting Hagan because she “wants my mom deported.”

Hagan is locked in a tight race against North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R), who has criticized her for supporting immigration reform.
