McConnell: I will likely be Senate majority leader in 2015

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell predicted Monday that Republicans will take control of the Senate this election and elect him as majority leader.

{mosads}The current Senate minority leader made the pronouncement during the only televised debate of the Kentucky Senate race. He argued that his role as majority leader would enable him to deliver more for his home state than his Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes.

“There’s a great likelihood that I will be the leader of the majority in the senate next year and the majority leader gets to set the agenda not only for the country but to look after Kentucky’s interests,” he said. “So one of the basic questions here is who can do the most for Kentucky over the next six years.”

Grimes, Kentucky’s secretary of state, said she could do more for Kentuckians by reaching across the aisle to work with centrist Republicans on a jobs plan.

“That’s how you get things done, not just in Frankfort but in Washington and that’s what been missing,” she said, turning to look at McConnell seated next to her.

“We haven’t had someone that’s reached out across the aisle to enact a jobs plan,” she said.
