With just weeks left before Election Day, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) is making changes to her campaign staff, replacing her campaign manager and bringing in trusted advisers from previous campaigns, according to NOLA.com.
The three-term senator replaced campaign manager Adam Sullivan with Ryan Berni, who has worked for her brother, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
{mosads}She is also supplementing her campaign staff with several current and former aides from her Senate office. It is standard for staffers to take a leave of absence from their offices on Capitol Hill to help their bosses run for reelection.
“As Sen. Landrieu has done in all of her races, she is bringing on some of her long-time and trusted advisers to assist during the last month of the race to lead us to victory on Nov. 4,” Landrieu’s spokesman told NOLA.com.
Landrieu is facing a difficult three-person field, including a Republican candidate and a Tea Party challenger.
The race has been one of the hardest political battles of Landrieu’s career. HuffPost Pollster, which aggregates national polling data, currently says that Landrieu holds a lead of 6 percentage points over her closest competitor, but that she is still under the 50-percent threshold she needs to cross in order to avoid a runoff. If a runoff were to occur, it would take place in December.
Landrieu’s race is also considered nationally important as Democrats look to hold on to their majority in the Senate.
