Bob Dole: Roberts a Senate ‘workhorse’

Former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole (R) touts Sen. Pat Roberts (R) as a “workhorse in the Senate” in Roberts’ newest ad.

{mosads}In the ad, Dole calls Roberts “a fourth-generation Kansan who shares our values and fights for Kansans everyday,” an implicit nod to the scrutiny Roberts has faced over whether he lives in Kansas anymore.

“From protecting our national security to creating thousands of new jobs, Pat Roberts is a workhorse in the Senate,” Dole adds. “The stakes are high, the choice is clear. We need to keep Pat Roberts in the Senate.”

Dole was one of the first prominent Republican figures to come to Roberts’ aide when it became clear last month the senator was in danger of losing his race, after a spate of public polls showed him trailing independent Greg Orman.

The most recent survey, out Wednesday, showed him trailing Orman by five points.

The former senator and presidential contender also stumped for Roberts in the state last week. He’s had a parade of prominent GOP figures come to his aid as he battles Orman in a race that could be pivotal for both parties if control of the Senate comes down to Kansas, as Orman hasn’t yet indicated which party he’d caucus with if he’s the deciding vote.
