Clinton skips Dem fundraiser after granddaughter’s birth
New grandfather and former President Bill Clinton is reportedly skipping a fundraiser on Saturday, hours after his first grandchild was born.
The Associated Press reported on Saturday morning that Clinton was canceling his scheduled stop in Denver, Colo., to support Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.), who is locked in a tight race with Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.).
{mosads}Clinton was previously scheduled to headline a luncheon fundraiser for Udall’s campaign on Saturday. The appearance would have surely provided a boost for Udall, who is neck and neck with Gardner in recent polling.
The former president is a powerful force for Democrats and has the effect of drawing big donations from supporters.
A Udall campaign spokesperson could not immediately be reached to confirm the report.
Earlier in the day, Clinton’s daughter Chelsea proudly reported that she had given birth to a baby girl, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky.
The former first daughter married Mark Mezvinsky in 2010.
