Poll: Hagan holds narrow lead in NC

Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) has a narrow lead over North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) in a new poll from High Point University.

{mosads}Hagan leads Tillis by 42 percent to 40 percent in the live-caller poll, with Libertarian Sean Haugh pulling 6 percent.

This is the latest poll to find Hagan with a small lead in the race, though the underlying numbers aren’t great for her.

The senator’s approval rating is underwater with 39 percent approving and 50 percent disapproving, while President Obama is in worse shape, with 38 percent of voters approving and 57 percent disapproving.

North Carolina could be one of a handful of races that will decide the Senate majority this fall.

The live-caller poll of 410 likely voters using landlines and cell phones was conducted from Sept. 13-18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
