National Democrats wade into New Hampshire Senate

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is going up with its first ad of the cycle in New Hampshire against former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown (R), a sign the race is closer than national Democrats would like to admit.

The DSCC’s ad hits Brown for his Massachusetts ties and on his past Senate votes.

“Scott Brown would turn his back on New Hampshire seniors. While representing Massachusetts, Scott Brown supported cuts to Medicare and Social Security,” the ad’s narrator says. “And he voted to protect tax breaks for millionaires and big oil.”

Recent polls indicate a tightening race between Brown and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.). The ad buy is the latest sign the fall campaign could be a tight one.

Brown’s campaign fired back against the ad.

“There’s only one candidate in this race who has voted to cut Medicare, and that’s Jeanne Shaheen when she cast the deciding vote for Obamacare. It’s shameful for her Washington allies to try and deceive the people of New Hampshire,” said Brown communications director Elizabeth Guyton. “Clearly, Shaheen’s liberal allies are becoming increasingly desperate as Brown’s momentum continues to surge and they are willing to do anything to prop up her faltering re-election prospects.”
