McConnell ad hits Grimes on bus costs
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is using recent reports about the costs of his opponent’s campaign bus in a new television advertisement.
Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes came under fire earlier this month amid reports that her father’s company is leasing a bus to her campaign for well below market value. That could amount to an illegal in-kind contribution from her father’s company.
{mosads}“After exposing Alison Grimes’ false attacks, news reports have now uncovered potentially illegal campaign contributions from her father,” a voiceover says in the new ad, released Saturday.
The remainder of the ad uses clips from news reports, calling it “a violation of campaign finance laws,” a “sweetheart deal,” and asking what it says about what Grimes would do in the Senate.
The Kentucky Republican Party filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission over the bus deal.
Grimes’s campaign has said that it reviewed the costs of similar deals, and it believes it is well within the law.
