Brown hits Shaheen on border crisis

New Hampshire Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown is knocking Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D) for supporting “pro-amnesty policies” in his newest ad.

{mosads}In it, Brown speaks to the camera about the fact that, while most Americans go through security for various activities, “folks who come here illegally, they just walk across the border. That’s wrong.”

He goes on to say that the “pro-amnesty policies of President Obama and Sen. Shaheen” have caused the crisis at the border.
  
“We respond with compassion, but it is time for us to secure the border once and for all, and tell people who try to come here illegally that we intend to enforce the law,” Brown concludes.

It’s Brown’s most policy-focused ad yet. Most of his previous ads have focused on an element of his personal narrative as well, as he works to introduce himself to New Hampshire voters.

And it touches on an issue that looks to be a winner for him both in the primary and the general election campaigns: immigration reform and the crisis at the border. 

Brown needs to fend off two challengers for the GOP nomination, and while he’s favored in that contest, he’s drawn skepticism from conservatives unhappy with his record as a former senator from Massachusetts. The immigration issue, however, gives him an opening to appeal to his right flank and hammer Shaheen on a potent issue that may be shifting in Republicans’ favor this fall.

Still, Shaheen is ahead by a solid single-digit margin in most polls of the race and remains favored for reelection.
