Collins endorsed by green group
The League of Conservation Voters has endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) in a rare move by the environmental group to back a Republican.
The group said Collins was committed to fighting climate change in a statement explaining the decision to endorse her over Democratic candidate Shenna Bellows.
{mosads}“Senator Susan Collins is committed to finding bipartisan solutions that will safeguard our environment and combat climate change while promoting clean energy, which will create good paying jobs and reduce our reliance on dirty fossil fuels,” LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski said in a statement.
“She is always fighting for the people of Maine by supporting common-sense policies that promote the state’s outdoor heritage and help protect our air, water and public health.”
Collins is not considered vulnerable, though Bellows has gained some notice from national progressive groups, picking up the endorsements of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and MoveOn, among others.
The Human Rights Campaign, another left-leaning group, previously endorsed Collins, lauding her support for gay rights.
