Shaheen ads tout mortgage reform in NH

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) is rolling out two ads Tuesday that tout her advocacy for mortgage reform in the state.

{mosads}The ads, running on statewide cable and on WMUR, feature Ursula Gorgon, a Republican homeowner in New Boston, N.H., who says in the ad she was in danger of losing her home of 14 years before Shaheen stepped in.

“It means everything to be able to keep your home. There is nothing more sacred than your home,” Gordon says in the ad. “I wouldn’t be in this house if it wasn’t for Jeanne Shaheen. She is the one who got the job done.”

Shaheen holds a lead in nearly every poll in that state over presumed GOP front-runner and former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown (R), who will receive the endorsement of 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney next week.

Democrats have made Brown’s ties to Wall Street an issue for him in the race, and the new Shaheen ad is geared toward creating a positive contrast between her record on Wall Street reform and Brown’s, pointing out her advocacy for homeowners in taking on big banks with refinancing reform.

Democrats point to Wall Street donations to Brown and the former senator’s refusal to support the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which overhauled financial regulation, until a proposed $19 billion tax on banks was eliminated, according to the Boston Globe.
