RedState’s Erick Erickson backs Kingston

RedState.com Editor-In-Chief Erick Erickson is backing Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) over businessman David Perdue (R) in their Senate primary runoff, making him the latest big-name Georgia Republican to support Kingston in the race.

{mosads}Erickson’s endorsement, which was published in the Macon Telegraph, spends more time laying out his concerns with Perdue than giving reasons to back Kingston. Erickson, an influential Tea Party activist, had endorsed former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R), who finished third in the first round of voting.

“Kingston is not perfect. David Perdue, to be sure, looks like the perfect candidate. People want an outsider and Kingston has been in Congress a long time. But even on the outside, Perdue has used his connections to benefit his companies. For an outsider, he is comfortable with the insiders. Kingston, an insider, has never been so comfortable with the insiders,” he writes.

Kingston has now secured endorsements from Erickson, Handel, former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), former University of Georgia star running back Herschel Walker and Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), who finished fourth in the primary.

Kingston has had a double-digit lead in the few public polls conducted in the runoff. The two will face off on July 22 for the right to face former charity executive Michelle Nunn (D) in the general election.
