Gingrich endorses Kingston in Georgia
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is endorsing Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) in his primary battle against businessman David Perdue (R). Gingrich the latest big-name Georgia Republican to back Kingston in the race.
{mosads}”Now is the time for conservative reformers like Jack Kingston who will take bold action to shake up the status quo and renew the American Dream for generations to come,” Gingrich says in a statement released by Kingston’s campaign. “I urge all Georgia Republicans to unite around conservative Jack Kingston in the July 22 runoff election.”
Kingston also has the backing of the two Republicans who finished behind him and Perdue in the first round of voting — former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) and Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) — and a number of members of Georgia’s congressional delegation.
Recent polls have shown him ahead of Perdue in the runoff and with a general election lead over Democrat Michelle Nunn.
An outside group backing Kingston is also going on the air in Georgia. The Southern Conservatives Fund attacks Perdue as “the outsider who would raise our taxes” in a new ad running statewide.
