Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), a favorite of Georgia conservatives, is endorsing fellow Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) in his GOP Senate primary runoff against businessman David Perdue.
“Jack Kingston has always been a steadfast leader in the fight for conservative principles,” Price said in a statement released by Kingston’s campaign.
{mosads}”On a broad range of issues, he’s built a proven record of cutting wasteful spending and holding Washington accountable,” he added. “He doesn’t shy away from making the tough but important decisions.”
The endorsement is the second big one Kingston has locked in since he made it to the runoff against Perdue. The race’s third-place finisher, former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R), endorsed him earlier this week.
The first poll since the runoff began, from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, found Kingston leading Perdue by 46 percent to 34 percent. Perdue had finished ahead of Kingston in the first round of voting, but may struggle to appeal to more conservative base voters.
Kingston is viewed by most establishment Republicans as their best option to face former charity executive Michelle Nunn (D) this fall. Nunn, the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.), has polled well against both Kingston and Perdue.
