Ga. Senate candidates make final push

Candidates in the closely watched GOP primary for Georgia’s Senate seat are making their final campaign push in the days leading up to Tuesday’s voting.

Reps. Paul Broun and Jack Kingston, along with former Secretary of State Karen Handel, attended Gov. Nathan Deal’s (R) annual fundraiser barbecue in northern Georgia on Saturday, the Associated Press reported. State leaders consider that region to be the heart of the state and one of the country’s most conservative areas.

{mosads}Rep. Phil Gingrey and former Dollar General CEO David Perdue are also running in the primary for Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R)’s seat, who is retiring.

Recent polling has shown Perdue, Handel and Kingston as the likely leaders in the crowded primary. If no one attains 50 percent of the vote, the top two performers would have to go to a run-off election.

Michelle Nunn is the frontrunner for the Democratic primary.
