GOP candidate: Rep. Sinema waiting for McCain to be ‘carried out on a stretcher’

A GOP congressional candidate hoping to battle incumbent Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) this November said that Sinema is waiting for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to be “carried out on a stretcher,” so she can run for his Senate seat. 

Speaking at a town-hall event on Thursday, Wendy Rogers said “no one will work harder than I” to replace Sinema.

“Because mark my words, she is Nancy Pelosi Jr.,” Rogers said. “And she is waiting for John McCain to be carried out on a stretcher, so she can run for his seat. Now that might be eight years from now. She’s a young gal. She’s 37. No kids, no grandkids. Got nothing else to do but do politics.”

Sinema was elected to the House in 2012 and is the first openly bisexual member of Congress. 

McCain, 77, is Arizona’s senior senator and is up for reelection in 2016. While he hasn’t yet declared a bid to seek a sixth Senate term, he has already held multiple fundraisers suggesting he might pursue it.

McCain was first elected to the Senate in 1986, and previously served in the House since 1983.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), 51, is the state’s junior senator and was elected to the upper chamber in 2012. He previously served in the House.

Rogers is a retired Air Force pilot running for the GOP nomination in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District. Former Arizona State University quarterback Andrew Walter is the other Republican hoping to take on Sinema.
