Obama advocacy group raises $5.9M

Organizing for Action, the advocacy organization working to promote President Obama’s agenda, announced it raised about $5.9 million in the first three months of the year.

{mosads}The group brought in $5.88 million from nearly 125,000 donations, with an average contribution of less than $39, an indication of strong grassroots support.

That’s slightly more than the nearly $5.7 million it garnered in the fourth quarter of last year. The increase in fundraising comes even as the OFA reportedly committed to reducing its fundraising activities so as not to draw financial support from Democratic candidates and incumbents running in tough races this election cycle.

A number of vulnerable Democrats expressed concern to The New York Times that the group was taking cash away from them and yet not making any significant advertising push to tout Obama’s accomplishments and give them some cover. Republican groups have spent heavily this cycle, with one, supported by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, dumping more than $30 million into House and Senate races already.
