FreedomWorks backs slew of incumbents
FreedomWorks is throwing its support behind a dozen incumbents, none of whom are facing serious primary challengers.
{mosads}The Tea Party-affiliated group is endorsing three senators and nine congressmen, all conservatives and many of whom have sparred with GOP leadership.
All are from safely Republican territory and don’t face threats from Democrats, and none appear to have much to worry about in their primaries, so it’s unclear how much the endorsements matter. One, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), has already won his primary, and the rest are running unopposed or face token opposition.
The endorsees include Sens. James Inhofe (Okla.), Tim Scott (S.C.) and Jim Risch (Idaho), and Reps. Jim Bridenstine (Okla.), Ron DeSantis (Fla.), Tom Graves (Ga.), Tim Huelskamp (Kan.), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Matt Salmon (Ariz.), Mark Sanford (S.C.) and Ted Yoho (Fla.).
“FreedomWorks PAC is working hard to bring fresh talent to the table, but it’s also critical to protect the new generation of leadership that has begun repopulating the Republican Party,” FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe said.
