Schatz outpaces Hanabusa in Q4

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) has once again out-raised Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-Hawaii) in their hard-fought Senate primary.

{mosads}Schatz raised more than $700,000 in the last three months of 2013, outpacing the $450,000 Hanabusa brought in, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat.

Schatz, who was appointed to the Senate in late 2012 following Sen. Daniel Inouye’s (D-Hawaii) death, has brought in $3.4 million for the campaign, while Hanabusa has raised $1.6 million. Neither campaign has released its cash on hand figures.

Hanabusa was Inouye’s choice to replace him — he made the request on his deathbed — but Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie (D) instead appointed Schatz, his ally and then-lieutenant governor. Hanabusa decided to challenge Schatz shortly thereafter.
