Dem super-PAC defends Kay Hagan on ObamaCare

The Senate Majority PAC is up with another big ad buy on behalf of Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), a top GOP target in 2014.

The ad focuses on stressing Hagan’s support of aspects of ObamaCare — without once mentioning the law by name — and criticizing her most likely opponent, North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R), on healthcare issues.

{mosads}”North Carolina can count on Kay Hagan. She protects my Medicare and Social Security. She took on drug companies to lower the costs of prescriptions for seniors, voted to cut waste and fraud in Medicare, forced insurance companies to cover cancer and other preexisting conditions,” people say in the ad. “I’ve read that Speaker Thom Tillis sides with insurance companies. He let insurance companies deny coverage if I get sick. Thom Tillis, what about us?”

A Majority PAC spokesman said the ad has $750,000 behind it, a significant ad buy especially so far before the election. The ad will run for two weeks.

North Carolina’s Senate race is heating up fast — the Democratic ads are in response to anti-ObamaCare ads from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity. An early November poll from North Carolina-based Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found a tight, 2-point race between the two, though earlier polling found Hagan with a more significant lead.

The North Carolina Republican Party fired back.

“It’s evident that Kay Hagan and her liberal allies have seen her campaign completely implode because of her unwavering support for Obamacare, and now they are desperately trying to do damage control to save her Senate seat,” says North Carolina Republican Party spokesman Daniel Keylin. “No amount of political spin and sugar-coating over the airwaves will change the fact that Kay Hagan repeatedly misled the public to justify casting the deciding vote for this train wreck. North Carolinians know that Kay Hagan owns Obamacare.”
