FreedomWorks has split with other national conservative groups in the Nebraska Senate race, announcing its endorsement Monday for former state Treasurer Shane Osborn.
The Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund, two other prominent groups that also play in primaries, have both endorsed Midland University President Ben Sasse.
{mosads}All three groups aligned behind state Treasurer Don Stenberg, who lost in the primary to now-Sen. Deb Fischer (R).
Nebraska is a reliably red state, and the GOP primary is expected to name the ultimate successor to retiring Sen. Mike Johanns (R), so a GOP split in the primary isn’t likely to jeopardize the party’s chances at keeping the seat.
Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale and Omaha lawyer Bart McLeay are also running in the primary.
