Count President-elect Donald Trump among those who didn’t think he would survive the Republican presidential primaries.

{mosads}According to a CNN report, Trump told Chris Christie last year that he didn’t expect to make it past October and would then endorse the Republican New Jersey governor for president.

“I think they always had an understanding that the first one out would probably endorse the other,” an unidentified Christie adviser told CNN.

Christie dropped out of the race in February after a poor showing in the New Jersey primary. He then stunned onlookers by endorsing Trump for president and was a top adviser throughout the campaign.

Christie led Trump’s presidential transition team until last week, when he was replaced by Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
