Ryan: GOP can take big strides under President Trump

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he’s looking forward to the large strides Republicans can take by gaining control of the White House and Congress, telling Fox News’s Brett Baier they could finally pass legislation and lift regulations to help everyday Americans.

{mosads}”What we got from our president-elect today is ‘Let’s go execute, let’s go get these things done,'” Ryan said, referring to his meeting Thursday with Donald Trump.

“Think about all these regulations that Obama is planning on rolling out that will put a wet rag — a dark cloud — on our economy. It’s being lifted. Donald Trump’s election, right there, just from regulations, helps save millions of jobs, helps the economy.”

“And that’s before we even get going on passing a legislative agenda to get people back to work to fix our country’s problems, so we’re all very excited about getting to work on this,” he added.

Ryan angered Trump World when he told House Republicans he would no longer defend Trump or campaign with him, but it appeared that any tensions between the two had been laid to rest in the wake of Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton.

The two met Thursday for the first time in months, and Ryan said it was a “fantastic, productive meeting about getting to work” for the American people.

“We closed the campaign by calling for Republican unity, and that is what we now have going forward,” Ryan said.

“This was an unconventional year. It was an unconventional candidate, but the point is we unified, especially at the right time at the end, and it worked.”

Ryan later said that securing the southern border would be the first priority and that replacing Obamacare would be equally important.
