Angus King: Qualifications were disadvantage for Clinton

Sen. Angus King (D-Maine) said early Wednesday that Hillary Clinton’s qualifications may have been a disadvantage in her race against Donald Trump.

{mosads}”In this political world, sometime qualifications can be a disadvantage. and she was running as a kind of quasi-incumbent,” King told CNN’s “New Day.” “And it was a combination of a lot of things coming together.”

King likened Trump’s victory over the former secretary of State to Great Britain’s “Brexit” vote to leave the European Union earlier this year.

“You have to put it in perspective the more nationalist isolationist, if you will, movements around the world. Brexit. I mean this was really similar to Brexit,” he said.

“I think people were voting for change even though they didn’t fully know what kind of change they were going to get. They just wanted something different,” he added.

In an NBC national exit poll, 52 percent said Clinton was qualified to be president, while 38 percent said Trump was qualified for the job.
