Huffington Post kills editor’s note calling Donald Trump ‘racist’

After months of adding an editors note calling Republican nominee Donald Trump a “racist” to stories on the 2016 race, The Huffington Post is ending the practice, according to a report by Politico.

{mosads}At the end of every article mentioning the businessman, the publication’s policy was to add a note that blasted Trump for his rhetoric and his political views.

“Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S,” the disclaimer said.

According to Politico, the Huffpost’s Washington Bureau Chief, Ryan Grim, sent a memo to the staff members Tuesday, stating that the decision to remove the editors note is an attempt “to start with a clean slate.”

Grim added that the publication reserves “the right to add it back on” if Trump “governs in a racist, misogynistic way.”

According to the report, HuffPo spokeswoman Sujata Mitra said the editors note will no longer appear because Trump is no longer a candidate for president.

“Now that the election is over, we will no longer be adding the note to future stories, as he is no longer a presidential candidate,” she wrote according to Politico.

Donald Trump on Tuesday significantly outperformed his expectations, and is projected to win in major battleground states that solidify his chances of winning the presidency.
