Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) appeared optimistic Tuesday night as House Republicans are projected to keep their majority and the presidential race remains within a razor-thin margin.
{mosads}“There is so much potential in this country,” Ryan said from his home state, according to ABC News. “And if we can just tap it, that’s what’s ahead of us.
“I’ve just been sitting there watching the polls, and by some accounts, this could be a really good night for America,” he continued. “Fingers crossed.”
As of 10:15 p.m., GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was leading by 149 electoral votes, compared to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 104. And major battleground states including Ohio and Florida remain too close to call with Trump in the lead.
Multiple outlets called it earlier in the night around 8:30 p.m. that Republicans would keep their majority in the lower chamber, though many toss-up races have yet to be called.
Ryan has had a tumultuous relationship with Trump throughout the campaign. But in the closing days of the race, the Speaker urged voters nationwide to back the real estate mogul.
