Clinton camp: ‘Don’t know’ if NC will be called on election night

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook says the race in North Carolina might be too close to be called on Election Day.

{mosads}“I think North Carolina is a toss up,” Mook said told MSNBC on Tuesday afternoon. “It is a numbers game. I don’t know that North Carolina will be called tonight. It might be that close.”

Despite his caution, Mook said he was encouraged by turnout from African-American voters and suburban women in the state’s voter-rich Research Triangle, which encompasses Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

Clinton has long eyed North Carolina as a pickup opportunity. Barack Obama won the state in 2008, but lost it in 2012.

Her campaign hopes the state’s 15 electoral votes will help the Democratic nominee reach the 270 she needs to win. But campaign officials have stressed there are other paths to victory for Clinton.
